Lunchroom Rolls - Side Dish – November 09 - Sara

I’m keeping this short and sweet. I love yeast rolls. Specifically, I love the cafeteria-like yeast rolls. I decided to make them as a side dish for Thanksgiving. I used this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/School-Lunchroom-Cafeteria-Rolls/Detail.aspx

Below are the dough stages.

I made traditional cafeteria-looking rolls:

I also made cloverleafs because I like them!

Suffice it to say, they were good.

  1. They were both DELICIOUS!!!!! And the lunchroom rolls? Were EXACTLY like the awesome yeast rolls they used to serve when they made chicken and noodles in elementary school... and now, I wish I had one in my mouth.

  2. I can almost taste them. I can close my eyes and still smell the warm yeastiness of the elementary cafeteria baking rolls. My classroom was just above the 1st floor cafeteria...I would get so hungry from the smell that I would take a bite out of my roll while waiting in line. I couldn't help it, I could not wait to sit down. Thanks for the recipe!

  6. Hannah, we moved a lot... and the best rolls were in the lunch at the elementary school in Brown County-- Sara, don't you think? Oh, wait-- I forgot-- Mrs. Trittipo made excellent rolls at the high school. Scratch that, Hannah. We fancy Indy people do get superior rolls.

  7. I do remember the Brown County rolls the most. We were very lucky to have fancy rolls all around Indiana.
